Restore

Restore your files/database to the ,Original location or an Alternate location.

Field Description
Restore mode There are two options: 'Normal restore' and 'Open backup data directly without restoration (OpenDirect)'.
Select what to restore There are two options: 'Choose from files as of job' and 'Choose from all files'.
Type Dropdown menu for selecting the type of pattern includes:
  [Contains]
  [Exact]
  [Starts With]
  [Ends With]
Pattern Input box for entering the pattern of files that you would like to show in the file tree. (Backup filter is case sensitive.)
Match case Checkbox to enable or disable case sensitivity.
Apply Click to apply the filter settings.
Search Input box for searching particular file pattern to restore starting from a certain directory. The search result will be shown in the file tree. This is an advanced version of filter pattern.
Restore files to There are 2 options: 'Original location' and 'Alternate location'.
This share requires access credentials Select if the network drive requires login credentials to be able to connect to it. (login account should have read/write access permission)
User name User name of the network drive. Will only be enabled once 'This share requires access credentials' is checked.
Password User password of the network drive. Will only be enabled once 'This share requires access credentials' is checked.
Restore file permission To enable or disable restore of file permission.
Delete extra files The restore process will attempt to synchronise the selected restore source with the restore destination.
Follow Link When this option is enabled, not only the symbolic link or junction point will be restored, the directories and files that the junction point links to will also be restored.
Resolve Link This is only available when restoring to Alternate Location. It must be used in conjunction with the Follow Link. When this option is enabled, not only the symbolic link or junction point will be restored, the directories and files that the junction point links to will also be restored. That means the symbolic link will point to the alternate location instead of the original location.
Verify checksum of in-file delta files during restore When this option is enabled, the checksum of in-file delta files will be verified during the restore process. This will check the data for errors during the restore process and create a data summary of the in-file delta files which will be included in the report.
Temporary directory for storing restore files The path where the restore files will be stored temporarily.


To perform a Normal Restore

  1. Click on the storage that you want to restore the backup from.
  2. Select Normal Restore.
  3. Select the backup snapshot from the 'Select what to restore' drop down box. If you choose 'Choose from files as of job', you can select the date and time of the backup from the date and time drop down box.
  4. Option: Click on the 'Show filter' to apply the filter, so that you can choose the files with a certain file pattern.
  5. Select the files/folders that you want to restore from the file tree. Click on the icon in front of the check box in the file tree to expand or collapse the tree. Click on the check box, so all the files under the check box will be selected.
  6. Option: You can use the search function to search the files that you want to restore.
  7. Click [Next] to proceed with your settings.
  8. If you choose to restore files to 'Original' location, all the selected restore files will replace the files on your original location. Choose 'Alternate' location if you want to check on the files first before you overwrite your original files. Select the local path or enter the IP Address or UNC path of the network drive e.g. \\192.10.10.1\sharedfolder or \\central_server\sharedfolder
  9. Option: Click on the 'This share requires access credentials' if the network drive is password protected.
  10. Click on the [Show advanced option] to allow the selection on 'Restore file permissions', 'Delete extra files', 'Follow Link', 'Resolve Link' and 'Verify checksum of in-file delta files during restore' options.
  11. Click [Next] to proceed with your settings.
  12. Select the directory where restore files will be stored temporarily.
  13. Click on [Restore] to begin the restore process.

Please note that 'This share requires access credentials' check box will only be enabled once a network address is detected.

To perform an OpenDirect Restore

  1. Click on the storage that you want to restore the backup from.
  2. Select Open backup data directly without restoration (OpenDirect). The OpenDirect Restore option is only applicable to backup sets with OpenDirect feature enabled. You can also click [Show advanced option] to select the OpenDirect Read Time Limit.
  3. Select the backup snapshot from the 'Select what to restore' drop down box. If you choose 'Choose from files as of job', you can select the date and time of the backup from the date and time drop down box.
  4. Select the files/folders that you want to restore from the file tree. Click on the icon in front of the check box in the file tree to expand or collapse the tree. Click on the check box, so that all the files under the check box will be selected.
  5. Select the Temporary Folder path by clicking the Browse button.
  6. Click on [Restore] to begin the restore process.
  7. You will be prompted to select a drive letter where you wish the mounted files to be mapped on your machine.
  8. The selected drive letter will be mapped and prompted in the Windows Files Explorer with the files you wish to restore. You may also copy individual file(s) you wish to restore to your local machine.
  9. When you have finished restoring the necessary files, you can go back to %edition_name% and Cancel to exit the OpenDirect Restore.

As a result of the limitation of the virtual file system library, the mapped drive will only be unmounted from your machine when you exit %edition_name%. In other words, each OpenDirect restore session on %edition_name% can only mount and unmount once.

You will get an idea of the restore status by looking at the colour of the progress bar.

Green Restore completed successfully
Yellow Restore completed with warning(s)
Red Restore failed/restore in progress

Click on the [Browse] button to see the details of the restore.
